Jorg Van Daele

Jorg Van Daele started his sculpting education in 1989 in a private school in Antwerp . Since 2001 he’s been a fulltime professional sculptor.

Jorg participated in more 53 symposia  in 30 countries worldwide  ( Malaysia ,Bolivia, Iran ,India New-Zealand, Cyprus, Egypt, Chili, Spain, Austria,…). In 2012 he won first prize in sculpting at the international symposium (AADD) of Pöchlarn, Austria. In Chili(2017) he won the 2th prize . His artwork is spread all over the world, in privately owned and in public places (Zimbabwe, Korea, Canada, Spain, Germany, Egypt, New-Zealand, Uzbekistan, USA, …).

His artwork distinguishes itself by the way Jorg puts different structures in his work. Most people think the sculptures contain several stones but this is an illusion as it is actually made out of one single stone.

Although at first he made most of his work in Belgian bluestone (or ‘Petit Granit’), lately he also made sculptures in several kinds of marble, limestone, granite, andesite….

In April 2016 he’ll open his own gallery: the New-Jorg Gallery, in which he will have exhibitions of the artwork of international artists along with his own. The N/J\G is located in Kalmthout near Antwerp in Belgium.

In 2015he started his “sculptures for Peace “ project what brings Jorg to 30 countries worldwide for 40 projects…. Till now  .

  • Participation in the “6ième rencontres internationales de sculpture de Sprimont” (B) (1999). In Sprimont a monumental sculpture of 1.80m by 0.5m by 0.5m was created in stone (petit granit).

When looking at the series of sculptures by Jorg Van Daele, a multitude of impressions, associations and thoughts come to mind.

This multitude reveals the ‘richness’ of the statues. The imagery has become increasingly condensed throughout the years, some statues more complex than others. Nowhere too much, nowhere too little. Never a random element. Most likely because the statues grew under the careful watch of the artist.

More or less following a preconceived ’image’ indeed, yet receptive to anything that comes along during the sculpturing process. The statues grow out of the original stone.

The voice of the artist speaks, while the stone can still be heard.

And the voices enhance each other.

What then do they talk about?

As usual with art, there is no clear-cut answer to be found. An analysis would wrong the expressive power of the statues. Then rather a subjective rendition of a walk through Jorg Van Daele’s garden of statues:

 

 

 

 

 

Walk

 

Fragile lean piling

In shades of greys and black.

Cross contrast to the roof:

A cobblestone above layers.

 

Erosion casts rhythms against light and shadow line

Momentum, splinted, carved,

Grown into a monument.

 

Hatching cube vertical,

Criss-cross shiny matt rough.

Beside a birch: a stone relief, similarly unbending.

 

Ancient, wise and lively

Found life and meaning

By the hand.

Like a hammer from sky

And a stone statue emerges from the sand.
